Where Did Summer Go?
It is the middle of August already and I feel like we haven't gotten anything done, fun or otherwise. The kids go back to school in 3 weeks and we are hoping to fit in a camping trip, but free time is sparse.
The kids have finished their Carnegie Center Summer Full of Art classes and loved them. Classes lasted 4 weeks for an hour a day. We are so grateful to have the Carnegie Center in our small town. I will try to get some pics of the finished pieces up soon.
The kids will be returning to Immaculate Conception school for P4 (4 year old) preschool. They will go Mon to Fri mornings. They went Tues and Thurs mornings last year so this will be a transition for them. Kindergarten will be next year (yep, you heard me!), which is all day here, so this will be good for them. There have been some administrative changes at IC for this year, not to mention the financial troubles, so we are keeping a positive outlook for this year. In all liklehood we will be going to public school for kindergarten.
Right now, our thoughts are on planning for birthdays. During this crazy summer I hadn't even thought about and now it is just a month away. Ack!!!!
The kids are great. L & L are thrilled to have new neighbors. Well mostly the 3 year old boy who moved in. Lilly participated in Princess Camp last month, which she loved! One week of princess this and princess that. It is put on by her dance school every summer. If she had any doubts about her princess status before the camp, they certainly were gone after the camp.
Lloyd had no real projects to work on this summer. There just was no time. So to prove his strength, he has taken up carrying Ellie around when needed.
Ellie is growing up. She won't crawl. She scoots on her butt using all 4 arms and legs to propel herself forward. Surprisingly fast. She can say momma, daddy, doggy, and pick up a phone, hold it to her ear and say hi. She is pulling herself up on most things but is still unsteady and forgets to hold on sometimes. It seems she will take after big sis and not walk by her 1st birthday. She loves music, especially Journey's "Don't Stop Believing" and will stop what she is doing to dance to any tune.

Georgia On My Mind
Say hello to Georgia. She is the newest addition to our family. She is a 2 year old St Bernard that we rescued today from the local SPCA. We have talked on and off about getting another dog for a few months but always found an excuse not to go looking. Well today we went to the Home Depot as usual for a Saturday and there she was. The SPCA was having an adopt-a-thon out front and we all immediately fell in love with her. After a unanimous family vote, we returned a few minutes later to adopt her. She is a sweet, loving, gentle, drooling, shedding giant and we love every bit of her. She loves to run with me and lets the kids climb on her. She has a few sores around her neck from her previous family leaving her with one of those stabbing collars (not sure what they are called) but all are healing well with antibiotics. It's almost summertime and the kids and I couldn't be happier about it. There are only 2 weeks of school left and I already miss my Tuesday and Thursday mornings with Ellie only. But the thought of long summer days spraying the kids with the hose, trips to the park, and walks to the candy store are getting me through.
Lloyd and Lilly have enjoyed their first few months of school and don't understand why they won't be going during the summer. I guess I should enjoy that now. They will continue preschool at IC next year in the 4 year old room and should have the same 5 classmates.
Lilly just finished her music class last week. She is going to take a couple of classes (one by her music teacher and one art) at the Carnegie Center this summer so she is super excited. She continues her ballet class too. She has her first recital June 27. She is so eager to learn, especially reading (thankfully for me grandma Leilani has really taken a leading role there, I have neither the skill nor patience).
Lloyd likes to keep his excitement for learning on the down low. He would still much rather mow, work or go to Home Depot than anything. Every once in a while though it sneaks out. He wants to take a couple of the classes at the Carnegie Center too, but unlike Lilly, he needs a friend there. He may end up taking classes he isn't thrilled about just to take them with Lilly.
Now Ellie....She is actually what prompted this post. She has does so many new things in 2 days I almost can't keep track.
~~~She just got her 4th tooth.
~~~She got into a sitting position from laying down.
~~~She is beginning to try to crawl around.
~~~She pulled to a stand.
~~~She has said "dada" and "mama" for a while but just said "Tick" yesterday. It may not sound like much but we were playing with the cat, Ticklish, and she looked at her and said it a couple of times.
Today was a great day. There was the small but still exciting 7-minute parade this morning. Then when had good friends over for a cookout and playing games in the yard. Burch's ribs were spectacular again this year. Hopefully he wrote down the recipe this year. He makes several versions of the dry rub every year before it is perfect. We played bocce, soccer, golf, on the swings/playhouse/sandbox and generally enjoyed the company. Pictures coming soon.
